Mary Lou Wallington McIntyre
MARY LOU WALLINGTON McINTYRE was born on May 12, 1919, in Guilford County, North Carolina. She was the twelfth of fourteen children born to Joseph Lee and Ella Donnell Wallington. She attended school at Poplar Grove Elementary and graduated from Brown Summit High School. She graduated from Bennett College in the Class of 1945 with a major in Elementary Education.
She taught elementary school in Mt. Gilead and also coached the girls’ basketball team. While there, she met Richmond Edward McIntyre, and they were married on April 9, 1949. To this union were born five children.
After raising her children, she continued to teach elementary school in Alamance County. Later, she switched careers to pursue her greater talents to become a seamstress, which she did until she retired in 1996.
Mary Lou, along with her husband Richmond, worshipped at First Baptist Church, and worked diligently to provide solid spiritual training for their children – beginning with Sunday School in the morning and ending with Baptist Training Union (BTU) at night. Above all, she taught them to pray, to love one another and to serve others unselfishly. In addition, she taught a primary Sunday School Class, served on Missionary Circle #2 and demonstrated the love of Christ through her continual acts of service for her family and community. She was a member of Bennett College’s Alumni Association and participated as long as. she was able to be active.
Cherishing the memory of her servant’s life are: son, Elder Richmond E. McIntyre, Jr. and wife, Jannetta, of Lithonia, GA; daughters, Sonia Leath and husband, Joel, of Fair Haven, NJ, Valeria Hearn and husband, Charles, of Centennial, CO, and Sharonetta McMillan of Greensboro, NC, and eleven grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Irene Brooker Mebane of Greensboro, NC.
She was preceded in death by her baby son, Darius McIntyre, who passed on as a young child.

Not just beautiful on the outside, but on the inside, too.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. -our marvelous Mary Lou.
So patient, caring, and giving to everyone she knew.
A kinder person you’ll never find – our compassionate Mary Lou.
